Luga Poster Biennale | Júris

A chamada de trabalhos internacional tem como data limite o dia 30 de junho.

Luga Poster Biennale é um projeto da Escola Superior de Media Artes e Design e do Instituto de Investigação em Design, Media e Cultura (ID+), que pretende explorar o Cartaz como elemento fundamental de investigação. A intenção desta bienal Luso-Galaica é estabelecer um evento internacional dedicado à promoção e celebração do cartaz como forma de expressão artística e comunicativa.

A bienal visa reunir designers, artistas e profissionais do campo do design gráfico, design de comunicação, (entre outras áreas) mais concretamente entre Portugal e Galiza, para compartilhar as suas criações, explorar tendências e estimular o diálogo e a colaboração entre comunidades.

O Luga Poster Biennale tem uma chamada de trabalhos internacional para cartazes cuja data limite é o dia 30 de junho e que serão avaliados e selecionados por um júri internacional composto por Isidro Ferrer, Joana MonteiroAgnieszka Ziemiszewska, Rui Abreu, María Ramos, Rui Mendonça, Paula Scher e Xosé García.

SOBRE O JÚRI

Isidro Ferrer Dozens of books, hundreds of posters, delicate objects, enormous facades, short animated films, sculptures, textiles, brand images, lamps. Any medium, technique, communication channel, serves Isidro Ferrer to express his passion for the theater of life through images. National Design Award 2002, National Illustration Award 2006, Member of the AGI (Alliance graphique international), illustrator and designer by 'devouring,' his work and his words encompass a vast physical and emotional geography.

Joana Monteiro is a graphic designer. Her work recognises a passion for typography. She uses and mixes various techniques to create graphic images. She has a degree in Painting and Communication Design and an MA in Graphic Design (University of the Arts London). She studied at the Royal College of Art, London, where she experimented with video and traditional typography. She worked with the FBA. studio in Coimbra for 5 years. She has been freelancing since 2007 and has worked mainly with cultural clients. She is co-founder of Clube dos Tipos, collaborating with Rui Damasceno, from Tipografia Damasceno. She is the founder of Editora dos Tipos, through which she published Manual Prático do Tipógrafo in 2016. In 2017, together with Xeréfe, she published Clube Mediterrâneo - doze fotogramas e uma devoração, in 2019 Tipografia Damasceno: 50 anos and in 2021 Vozes de Letras. 

Agnieszka Ziemiszewska graphic designer, educator and art curator. Her works have been presented all over the world. She has been awarded numerous distinctions and awards. Currently Agnieszka is a professor at the Faculty of the New Media Arts at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology. Agnieszka has been part of juries and committees in national and international graphic design competitions and events. She has also curated and co-organized multiple exhibitions in Poland and abroad.

Rui Abreu graduated in 2003 from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto, Portugal, where he studied Communication Design. During his student years, he became interested in typography. His professional experience includes working in advertising agencies and publishing fonts, both independently and with other foundries. Currently, he dedicates himself entirely to the R-Typography font library and provides customised type for brands and publications.

María Ramos After graduating in Advertising, María Ramos worked as an art director and graphic designer for various design companies in Galicia. Ten years after graduating, she moved to England and pursued in the Master of Arts in Type Design from the University of Reading. In 2016, she co-founded NM type together with Noel Pretorius, an international type foundry that creates custom typefaces, sells retail fonts, and develops experimental projects. Currently based in Santiago de Compostela, she continues to practice graphic and editorial design while running her type foundry. She is an active member of the Galician Association of Design DAG and the international collective Alphabettes, and has contributed to the creation of the Archive of Galician Design AR\DE. Her work has been awarded by prestigious organizations such as the Type Directors Club of New York, the European Design Awards, the Art Directors Club, and the Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño. 

Rui Mendonça. Designer, teacher, researcher, and poster collector. A professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto since 1993, he focuses on poster-related research. With a PhD in this field, he has supervised various projects, published books, and organized exhibitions. He values posters for their powerful, timeless communication, blending practicality with aesthetics. His creative process is driven by functional and aesthetic criteria, viewing posters as poetic, emotionally engaging works beyond mere advertisements.

Paula Scher is a globally influential graphic designer, known for blending pop culture and fine art. She has been a partner at Pentagram's New York office since 1991, and her eclectic typography in the 1970s and 80s became highly influential. Scher's mid-1990s identity for The Public Theater created a new symbology for cultural institutions, and her recent architectural work reimagines urban landscapes. Notable projects include brand identities for Citibank and Tiffany & Co. She has received numerous awards, and her work is in major collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Xosé García Graphic, digital and product designer. He has a degree from EASD Ramón Falcón in Graphic Design and from EASD Mestre Mateo in Product Design. Since 2005 he his the head of the design studio Piedrapapeltijera in Santiago de Compostela, and mainly work for Galician companies, NGOs and social foundations. His work cover multidisciplinary projects within the fields of identity, editorial, digital and product, increasingly interested in the initial phases of these, where it is necessary to conceptualize, focus and define the projects.
