20th edition of the Images of the Imagined Real

The Cycle of Photography, Cinema and Multimedia will take place from 11 to 15 November 2024.

The School of Media and Arts and Design organises the 20th edition of the Images of the Imagined Real (IRI) Cycle of Photography, Cinema and Multimedia taking place from 11 to 15 November 2024, in Porto city and Vila do Conde, Portugal.

The event, which will take place between the Culture Center of the Polytechnic of Porto, the Portuguese Center of Photography, the Municipal Theater of Vila do Conde and ESMAD, promotes the proximity of the academic community to the territory and the public, through the arts and science, packed to the sound of cinematographic, photographic and interactive practices. Indelible Images is the theme of this edition. In a time and space in which have never been produced,so many images, they are often condemned to relentless oblivion, dictated by the same "productive" vertigo that impelled their creation.

The image is lost in the technological sea. For those who love them – the images, of course – they continue to make sense of the world, orderly or chaotically, with a whisper or a bang. Many of them remain and will remain, many of them are indelible and many of their lovers and creators have been welcomed by this initiative, born precisely 20 years ago, in each of its editions: from photography to cinema, from multimedia to comics, from animation to video art.

The IRI has affirmed itself above all as a place of celebration, welcome and provocation, a week dedicated to thinking about the image, to paying homage to the past, to debating the present, to dreaming of the future. Students, teachers, artists and academics converged in dozens of sessions that built this forum. This year we remember the pioneers, the Alumni, those who made it happen! We celebrate the diversity of views and the freedom to debate them, without dogmas or strings attached. With the love for images, indelible images.
