180 Media Academy

Canal180 presents, in collaboration with Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival, the first edition of 180 Media Academy, with a programme that aims to reflect on new media formats as an approach to new topics.

180 Media Academy is a complementary education programme for students and young professionals in the media and audiovisual sectors, which aims to explore the new paradigms in contemporary production.

The development of digital platforms made the demand for audiovisual content soar. This new phase is characterised by the diversity of formats and their strong influence in the entire ecosystem of production, with a new parallel circuit to the productions oriented towards film
festivals.

In this way, 180 Media Academy gathers non-conformist talents in a programme that aims to rethink media formats and subjects. More editorial than technical, the programme offers a transdisciplinary and wide-reaching perspective for the discussion of new themes, discourses
and trends that are marking the world this year, and will continue to through the next decade.

We want to discuss new ways of telling stories that have an impact in society. As disruptive new narratives require innovative ways of delivering, to look at new themes is also to look at how they manifest through formats beyond traditional cinema settings, in different distribution platforms and mediums.

The programme takes place online, between the 24 to 27 November 2020, with a series of masterclasses, talks, screenings and a project development.
Suzanne Tromp (WePresent), Thomas Gorton (Dazed Media), Helen Job (TCOLab) and Amar Ediriwira (Boiler Room 4:3) will each give a Masterclass. Jon Uriarte (Photographer's Gallery) will host the project development, whilst for the Talks programme, Le Ranso (Vampire Films), Diogo ‘Gazela’ Carvalho (Filmmaker) and Wouter Jansen (Square Eyes) have been confirmed, with more to be announced soon.

180 Media Academy is the result of a collaboration between media platform Canal180 and Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival.
